Brazilian GP Preview: Sprint Race, Top Teams and Grid Penalties

The Brazilian Grand Prix takes place this weekend in Sao Paulo, Brazil. More commonly known as Interlagos, the Brazilian Grand Prix is held at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace circuit. The last two races have been fast-paced and jam-packed with entertaining overtaking and battles for podium positions. The Brazilian GP promises the same thing with Ferrari staying consistent and a potential grid penalty for Max Verstappen.

The past two races have featured time penalties for going off-track and penalty points for reckless and dangerous driving. Turns 1 and 3 show potential for being issues throughout the 71-lap race. As the battle for the World Constructors’ Championship continues to get hotter, is now the time to take a voluntary grid penalty? Can Ferrari keep their pace up and continue their fight with McLaren and Red Bull?

All eyes on the Constructors’ battle as Ferrari keeps their momentum

After the Mexican Grand Prix, Ferrari overtook Red Bull in the World Constructors’ Championship (WCC). For the past couple of races, Ferrari has consistently put out a good performance. Both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are showing top form with both drivers on the podium at the last two races. But can they keep it up?

Ferrari is showing amazing race pace this season as out of 20 races, Leclerc and Sainz have finished out of the top 10 no more than 3 times. The consistency has paid off with the slow and steady downfall of Red Bull. It takes both drivers to win a WCC. Luckily where Red Bull is not delivering, Ferrari is.

Potential Engine Penalty for Max Verstappen at the Brazilian GP

Race pace was a big issue for Red Bull last weekend with Max Verstappen and Christian Horner speaking out about their issues. It has been rumored that Verstappen would be taking an engine grid penalty in Brazil but the rumor seems to be true. Verstappen had engine issues during the Mexican GP practice sessions. With Red Bull slipping into third and both of their drivers struggling, something has to change.

Interlagos is a great track for taking a grid penalty because of the long straights. If Verstappen did take a grid penalty, it would only be 5 positions. After his 20-second penalty last race, he managed to make up 9 positions. The Brazilian GP is also a sprint weekend, which is an area that Verstappen dominates. He has won all of the sprints this season.

Despite the possibility of starting 5 positions down, Verstappen has shown time and time again that he can make his way into the top 10 and onto the podium. Do you think we will see him on the podium this weekend?
