“There’s No Chance”: Helmut Marko Rules Out WCC for Red Bull as Sergio Perez Continues to Struggle

Max Verstappen won his fourth consecutive title at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. However, it is increasingly likely that his team, Red Bull, will miss out on the constructors’ title. The Milton Keynes-based team is sitting third in the championship, 53 points off leaders McLaren.

With just two remaining races, including a sprint, that total looks too much to overcome. The Red Bull looks slower than the McLaren and Ferrari ahead of them. While their rivals have two drivers consistently scoring good points, Red Bull isn’t in that position.

Helmut Marko critical Sergio Perez for his role in not winning the Constructors’ Championship

Sergio Perez is struggling this season. He currently sits eighth in the championship and has yet to win. He last stood on the podium at the Azerbaijan GP in 2023 and was knocked out of the first qualifying session on six occasions in 2024. This poor form has led to Red Bull slipping down the table.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko already believes the damage is done and holds Checo accountable. Speaking to Danz, he said: “We have to have two drivers who finish in the points. Max is more than 200 points ahead of Sergio. For our employees, it is a disappointment. Because they will not receive their bonuses, as they depend on our position in the constructors’ championship. And there’s no chance we can win it.”

Red Bull have struggled this season. After looking unbeatable in the early part of the season, even Max Verstappen has had issues with the RB20, leaving him with just one win since the Spanish Grand Prix in June excluding Las Vegas. However, the Dutchman has finished consistently in the points, something which cannot be said for Perez.

Will Sergio Perez still be at Red Bull next season?

Sergio Perez does have a contract to drive for Red Bull for the 2025 season. However, with his poor form, rumours continue to speculate about his seat. In Las Vegas, he was out-qualified by both VCARB drivers. In the race, he was still beaten by Yuki Tsunoda.

The Japanese driver has consistently impressed this season and is pushing for the second seat at Red Bull. Liam Lawson has also impressed since replacing Daniel Ricciardo. However, Yuki might get the nod if the senior team wants someone more experienced to replace Checo.

Franco Colapinto has also been linked to the seat. The Rookie replaced Logan Sargeant and has impressed since. In the last two race weekends though, he has had three major accidents, wrecking his car. Red Bull’s interest might be waiting on the young Argentine who still needs to learn the trade.
