With the final race of the season, several drivers are bidding farewell to their teams as they prepare for new adventures. One of these drivers is Carlos Sainz. With Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari in 2025, there is no room for Carlos, so he will be joining Williams next season. But he mentioned how he wishes to go out at the season finale.
The 2024 season has been the most unpredictable season in recent years. In previous years, it has been one or two teams fighting for race wins every weekend. But this year, it has been 4 teams. Ahead of Abu Dhabi, the Constructors’ Championship is between McLaren and Ferrari with the latter trailing by 21 points.
Carlos Sainz aims WCC for Ferrari as he bids farewell
With Ferrari having a strong chance to win the WCC, Carlos Sainz has said that it would be the perfect goodbye. Here’s what he said in Thursday’s press conference ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
“It’s so tight between the top four teams, you cannot pick one in advance – you have to wait for practice to see. It would be the best way to say goodbye to my home for the last four years, to say goodbye with a constructors’ title would be the perfect goodbye. It is still a difficult one, being 21 points behind two of the fastest drivers and one of the fastest teams requires perfection from us and not an optimum weekend from them.”

In order for Ferrari to win the WCC, they have to be perfect all the way from qualifying to the race. They desperately need a 1-2 finish that would earn them 43 points. In this case, they need the McLarens to score less than 22 points. If McLaren finishes 4th and 5th, they will be scoring 22 points on the dot. Ferrari can still win in this scenario if they claim the fastest lap.
It’s all to play for at the final race of the season. So the question is will Ferrari have the perfect weekend?
Who has the strongest car for the Abu Dhabi GP?
As mentioned above, the top 4 teams have all been competitive throughout the season. This weekend is no different. Looking at the layout of the track, it looks as though all the teams have a case to be the fastest.
The medium-slow speed corners favour Ferrari and Red Bull, the higher-speed corners favour McLaren and the fact it is at night in cooler conditions could favour Mercedes. This is going to be one exciting finale for F1 fans.

If Ferrari manages to get a front-row lockdown for the start of Sunday’s race, it would become all the more exciting for the Constructors’ Championship.
