Lewis Hamilton announced he was leaving Mercedes and joining Ferrari before the 2024 season began. He had a successful 12-year stint in Brackley, winning six world championships. He had Angela Cullen by his side through most of his time with the Silver Arrows.
Cullen worked alongside Hamilton between 2016 and 2023 as a physiotherapist and assistant, leaving to pursue new opportunities. However, she has decided to join his team. Who is Angela Cullen?
Where is Angela Cullen from?
Cullen, aged 50, was born in Davenport, New Zealand. She received a degree in health science and physiotherapy from the University of Auckland.
In her youth, Cullen was a field hockey player for her country at international level, between the ages of 15 and 21.
Life before Mercedes
Before working for Mercedes and Hamilton, Cullen worked at the English Institute of Sport, based in London. She worked as a senior physiotherapist between 2000 to 2006. She supported the British Olympic team, UK Athletics and the British Triathlon team. At the 2004 Olympics, the gold medalists of the 4 x 100m team worked with Cullen.
Following 2006, Cullen returned to New Zealand to spread her knowledge of sports. She was an advisor for SPARC High Performance, while also working for the New Zealand Academy of Sports and Sport New Zealand.

She became Hamilton’s physiotherapist and assistant. Hamilton enjoyed his peak years with the 50-year-old by his side, winning four consecutive world championships between 2017 and 2020. Cullen was ever present during race weekends until she unexpectedly left her role in the lead-up to the 2023 Saudi Arabia Grand Prix.
