Lewis Hamilton has joined Ferrari for the 2025 season. After spending 12 years at Mercedes, the question is how the seven-time world champion will adjust to driving a completely different car concept.
Following the livery reveal at F1 75 Live, Hamilton took the SF-25 for a spin the following day. He was able to gauge how the Ferrari drives and what driving style he would need to challenge for the 2025 crown. However, the Brit admitted he needed to adjust to the car.
Lewis Hamilton ‘adapting’ to Ferrari
After his first track time in the scarlet red, Lewis Hamilton admitted his new car was very different to the Mercedes challengers over the last few seasons. Parts of the car are completely different to what the Brit is used to but he believes that is all part of the new challenge.
Hamilton said: “I am still acclimatising to the Ferrari car. It is a lot different to what I have lived with for the last few years in this generation of cars, but also controls and everything. Over the last 10 years, I have been used to a certain way of working and I am still adapting.

“I am definitely having to adapt my driving style. It’s rare that you just jump in and it just fits. For example, the steering wheel is completely different. All the switch settings are completely different. The software is different.”
Of course, Lewis Hamilton is going to need a period of adjustment after spending over a decade at Mercedes. Once he does, the blend of the seven-time world champion and the Scuderia could be lightning. If Hamilton feels at one with the car, not many can stop the 40-year-old from winning.
Can Lewis Hamilton win his eighth title with Ferrari?
Lewis Hamilton is an all-time great of Formula 1. If anyone knows how to win a championship, it is the Brit. He has had a stellar career with both Mercedes and McLaren and knows what it takes to win. He struggled at Mercedes since the ground effect era began but given the chance, he can still beat anybody.
Hamilton’s win at Silverstone in 2024 showed the Brit is not in decline. He outperformed the entire grid to win in front of his adoring fans. If he can gel with the Ferrari, he will be Max Verstappen’s biggest threat. Hamilton is the only driver to take Verstappen in the Dutchman’s period of domination.
It depends on the car Ferrari gives him. Hamilton has had limited track running around the Fiorano test circuit but is positive with the car. He claims the car is good enough to challenge for a title. Come Australia, we will see.
