Gabriele Mini and Oliver Goethe Top the Leaderboards for the Second Day of F2 Pre-Season Testing

After Victor Lindblad topped the timesheets on day 1 of F2 pre-season testing, it was Gabriele Mini’s turn to set the benchmark on day 2, finishing with a 0.07s advantage over Ritomo Miyota. The 2024 F3 runner-up set his fastest lap time during the morning session, which remained unbeaten for the rest of the day.

Luke Browning secured the third fastest lap of the day with a 1:23:870 followed by Victor Martins and Joshua Duerksen, all set during the morning session. Meanwhile, Lindblad secured P6 with a 1:24:021, over 0.3s slower than Mini. Here’s how the day unfolded for the 22 drivers eager to get a head start on their upcoming F2 campaign.

Mini and Miyota take advantage of disruptive morning session

As the lights turned green, Jak Crawford set the pace with a cautious 1:27:733 which was almost immediately beaten by Dino Beganovic with 1:27:426. However, the most impressive lap yet arrived from MP Motorsport’s Richard Verschoor, who set a benchmark of 1:26:304.

21 minutes into the session, Max Esterson brought out the red flags after spinning his TRIDENT between turns 1 and 2. Once the session restarted, Mini rose his way to the top with a 1:25:306 but was soon surpassed by Alexander Dunne by 0.115s. However, Dunne’s advantage didn’t last long, with Mini reclaiming the top spot with a 1:23:709.

Verschoor also spent a fair share of time at the top of the leaderboard, but, eventually, it was Mini who produced an incredible lap that went on to remain unbeaten for the rest of the session. Apart from Esterson, there were also other red flags brought out by Lindblad, Fornaroli and Bennett. The latter forced an early end to the morning session.

Oliver Goethe leads the afternoon F2 session amid red flags

Oliver Goethe set an early pace to the afternoon session with a 1:24:372, almost 0.1s faster than his Verschoor. Soon after, Beganovic put in a 1:24:424, missing out on the fastest lap by 0.05s.

Unlike in the morning, all 11 teams focused entirely on long runs, resulting in significantly slower lap times compared to the day’s opening session. Interestingly enough, the only constant of day 2 was red flags, with the afternoon sessions, too, witnessing numerous disruptions.

The order remained unchanged for the rest of the session, as Goethe ended the day in P1. Behind Beganovic and Verschoor, Roman Stanek and Rafael Villagomez completed the top five.
