Victor Martins and Sami Meguetounif Top the Final Day of F2 Pre-Season Tests

F2 has ended its preparations to kick off the 2025 season with the pre-season testing reaching its end. The final day looked eventful as the teams looked to generate as much data as possible for the season starter.

The last two days of the testing weren’t any less eventful as the drivers kept topping each other’s times during both sessions. Each day saw a different driver and a different team at the top for each session.

Victor Martins has carried his lead over to the final day for the morning session while Sami Meguetounif puts TRIDENT on top for the afternoon session.

Victor Martins carries his lead over for the morning session

The morning session had teams preferring the wet tyres as the track had wet areas due to the overnight rain. An early red flag was waved due to DAMS’ Kush Maini stopping on track. A second red flag was waved shortly as Sami Meguetounif pulled to the side after he set the fastest time of 1:36.479.

Rodin’s Christian Mansell moved to P1 with a 1:29.699, becoming the first driver to go under 1:30. He was moved to P2 by his teammate Alexander Dunne with a 1:28.493. Dunnei improved on his own time with a 1:27:590, which remained unchanged for the rest of the session for him.

Meguetounif returned to the track with a vengeance and pushed his car for a 1:27.223 but was swiftly topped by Richard Verschoor of MP Motorsport going 1:27.013.

Sebastian Montoya brought out the third red flag due to a spin. After the restart, John Bennett of Van Amersfoort logged a 1:26.311. Jack Crawford followed soon, missing P1 by just 0.009s for DAMS before Kush Maini took P1 with a score under 1:25. The DAMS teammates led comfortably for a 1-2, with the American taking the charge going 1:25.580 and the Indian just 0.013s behind.

Victor Martins then put ART on the top with a 1:24.673 and remained there for the rest of the morning session. Mansell brought out the second last red flag with Martins bringing out the last one, thus ending the morning session.

Campos Racing, MP and TRIDENT immediately went out on the track with Arvid Lindblad setting the early time of 1:25.427, followed by Verschoor 0.288s behind.

Meguetounif set his 1:24:363 to go P1 and remained there for the rest of the session. Teammate Esterson spun out to bring out the first red flag of the session.

The afternoon session was aimed at logging in more mileage instead of the times to get the running data. Another red flag was waved due to John Bennett spinning out. There was little movement in times after that until Dunne went P2, 0.685s down on Meguetounif’s time.

Two more red flags were brought out. First was Oliver Goethe beaching into the gravel, and the second was Meguetounif sliding into the gravel, thus ending the afternoon session.

With the testing over, F2 fans can now look forward to the season opener in Melbourne, Australia on 14th March 2025.
