In the conversation about who will join the new Cadillac team in 2026, Mick Schumacher has become a stable contender for an F1 return. The German racer has extensive experience in many different series on and off the track. However, there remains doubt whether Schumacher has what it takes to race in Formula 1 full-time.
Sebastian Vettel has given unique insights into this matter as he backs Schumacher completely for the upcoming Cadillac seat. Having raced against him during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, he’s gotten to know Mick very well and mentored the German youngster over the past years.
Vettel reflects on time with Mick Schumacher in Formula 1
During an exclusive interview with RTL/ntv and sport.de, Sebastian Vettel has commented on Mick Schumacher’s chances for an F1 return with Cadillac:
“I wish it for him. We are, of course, in contact, and I was aware of how things ended for him in Formula 1. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he gets another chance, because I believe he can absolutely keep up with the others.”
The 2022 season has come to an end and with that a chapter as well. I want to take this moment to thank everyone at Haas F1 for all their hard work over the last two years.

Talking about Schumacher’s seasons at Haas, Vettel comments on Mick’s performance and state of mind:
“He didn’t feel very comfortable there [at Haas].”
This wasn’t helped by the fact that Haas was a back-marker team in the championship for both of those seasons, where he couldn’t really extract much out of the car.
A more mature Schumacher could join the grid for 2026
When looking ahead to the 2026 season, Vettel talked about Schumacher and what he has been up to since leaving the sport:
“He’s now in a completely different stage. He’s much more mature. And I think he’s doing a very good job at Alpine in the World Endurance Championship. It would be nice if he got a second chance with Cadillac.”
