Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc Trial Radical Ferrari Upgrade as Team Hints at Breakthrough for SF-25

After finishing P2 in the constructor’s championship last year, Ferrari expected to challenge for the championship once again this year, but it’s been a rough start for the Italian team. They haven’t won a feature race and have just four podiums to their name so far, but upgrades are on the way.

Before the Belgian Grand Prix, Ferrari tested a new rear suspension, which they believe yielded some positive results.

Ferrari cautiously optimistic about new upgrades

Ferrari hosted a filming day at their Mugello track before the Belgian Grand Prix to test out their new rear suspension. The FIA regulations imposed a 200km cap on the testing session, but they were still able to gather some valuable data.

On Wednesday, Ferrari reserve driver, Antonio Giovinazzi, did two laps around Mugello with the old suspension to get some baseline data. Then on Thursday, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc hopped in the car with the new suspension for the full testing session.

Reports indicate that there is ‘cautious optimism’ in the Ferrari garage following the testing session. The SF-25 has struggled with ride height issues this season, which has limited their setup options. With the upgrade, they hope to have solved at least some of those issues.

New power steering upgrade coming soon for Ferrari

A new power steering upgrade is also reportedly on the way for Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. It’s not expected to be ready for the Belgian Grand Prix, but could come into play in Hungary the week after.

This upgrade comes after Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc both complained about high-speed cornering at Silverstone. Leclerc struggled the most, finishing P14 and second-to-last among finishers. Hamilton finished P4, but was unable to catch Nico Hulkenberg’s Sauber in the final stages to secure his first podium in a feature race this year.

The Tifosi can only hope that these new upgrades will lead to more success on track. If they fail to reach the top step of the podium, it will be the first time since 2021 that a Ferrari driver didn’t record at least one win in a season.

Help is on the way for Ferrari, but it may be too little, too late in terms of competing for a championship. They sit at P2 in the constructors, but are 238 points behind McLaren in P1. Their biggest challenge for the rest of the season will be Mercedes, who are currently 12 points behind them in the championship.
