Lucky 5 Euro Note Fan Surfaces Again at Belgium GP As Oscar Piastri Shares Must-See Video

Last year, a bizzare coincident occured at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Before the weekend, a fan gave Oscar Piastri a supposed ‘lucky’ 5 Euro note. Piastri initially didn’t accept the note as he felt awkward taking money from a fan, but was forced to after the fan placed it on his lap claiming it was lucky.

As it turned out, the Australian driver would go on to win his first Formula 1 race that weekend in Budapest. After this year’s Belgian GP that saw Piastri win again, the driver shared a video on social media that saw a familiar face.

The fan happened to attend the track with the lucky 5 euros for two Piastri wins

In a video posted to X by Piastri himself, the same fan who presented Piastri with the 5 euro note in Hungary was seen holding up a sign for his favourite driver. The sign in question contained a giant 5 Euro note while he was waving to Piastri during the drivers’ parade ahead of the main race.

In this race, Piastri did not only go on to win the Grand Prix, but took the lead from Lando Norris who had pole position, and extended his lead in the championship to 16 points.

Piastri previously joked about his love for the Belgian track in an Instagram post, after dominating in Sunday’s race, pulling a gap to Championship rival and teammate Lando Norris that the British driver failed to close.

Will Piastri be hoping to see the same fan again in Hungary?

McLaren will be hoping to carry momentum from Spa into Hungary, especially Piastri who claimed victory at the circuit last season in a controversial win. After leading the race, a poor strategic decision led to Norris undercutting his teammate, with the Australian unable to match Norris’ pace and reclaim the lead.

What followed was an intense argument between Norris and engineer Will Joseph, who urged the Brit to allow Piastri through, despite Norris’s chances of taking the title fight to Max Verstappen.

This was the first time viewers were exposed to ‘Papaya Rules’, a strategy implemented by McLaren to manage competition between their drivers and avoid conflict. On this occasion, Norris eventually conceded the position three laps before the end of the race.

Fans were outraged by the poor handling of the situation, and with tension starting to build in the battle for the 2025 Drivers’ Championship, could we see another awkward race for McLaren?
