Oscar Piastri Set for Legendary Company as He Nears 40-Plus Consecutive Points Finishes With F1 Icons

Oscar Piastri joined the grid from the 2023 season onwards with McLaren who were at the time at the very back of the grid. During the following seasons, McLaren improved their car massively and worked their way up to the very front joining the likes of Ferrari and Red Bull. With this amazing car, you also need a driver who is very consistent. Oscar Piastri is showing why he is that driver.

There are many different fun statistics and lists you can join in Formula 1, Youngest driver ever, Most races won in a career and Most successful stint at a team for example. There are also a few that are less fun, Most races needed before scoring a podium, which was until recently topped by Hulkenberg and The fastest penalty of an F1 career, owned by Vettel. Piastri however, is about to join one of the most prestigious lists there are.

Consistency is key in Formula 1

There is a familiar saying in Formula 1, “To finish first, you first have to finish!”. While the saying is true, it has a deeper meaning. If you want to become first in a race, you need to complete the full distance. If you have an off weekend and crash, you don’t score. Oscar Piastri is showing just how important this saying is as he is about to join the list of “Most consecutive weekends with points finishes”

Posted by @F1GuyDan on Twitter/ X, an F1 expert that posts about the fun stats and stories. Oscar Piastri has currently scored points in the past 39 race weekends, meaning he has not DNf’ed in any of them or scored points in the Sprint race when he didn’t score in the GP.

This is a feat that only two other drivers managed before him. These two drivers are Max Verstappen, who broke the streak in Australia 2024 when he retired with a broken rear brake, and Lewis Hamilton, who couldn’t race in Bahrain in 2020 due to the Covid virus.

The Legacy of Oscar Piastri starts now

With this level of consistency, it’s no surprise that the Australian leads the 2025 championship at the moment. He looks to be the favorite to cement his name in history this season as he is set to join another list, the List of Formula 1 World Champions. In only 60 races so far in his F1 career, he already managed to start a near 40-race streak.

Everyone has been in awe this season of the performance we have seen from Piastri. Getting up to speed with Lando Norris, who we can at this point consider an F1 veteran, is not an easy feat. However, Piastri makes it look like it. The Australian driver has had to battle the likes of Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris and more often than not, he manages to force either a mistake out of them, or slip past with smart racing.

He shows the level of cool that we only see from the very best in the sport. With his continued level of consistency, we could be looking at one the greatest drivers of all time in Oscar Piastri.
