Ferrari has yet to win a championship since the 2008 season, although they came close to breaking their duck last season. The Scuderia signed seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton to help propel them to the top of the standings, but they have lacked the performance of McLaren.
After 12 years at Mercedes, Hamilton has become well-equipped to develop a car capable of winning world championships. As the 2025 season has progressed, Ferrari has found more performance, propelling them into second place in the standings. Hamilton has revealed that he has sent documents to Maranello to help them increase the SF-25’s performance level.
Lewis Hamilton reveals what was in the documents he sent to Ferrari
Lewis Hamilton has had a slow start to life with the Scuderia. Despite an early sprint race win in China, the Brit is yet to stand on the podium for a grand prix. In Belgium, Hamilton explained that he had sent Ferrari documents throughout the season to try to help the team improve. The 40-year-old revealed: “I’ve sent documents. I’ve done [that] through the year.
“After the first few races, I did a full document for the team, then during this break [between races] I had another two documents that I sent in, and so they would come in and want to address those.
“Some of it’s structural, adjustments that we need to make as a team in order to get better in all the areas that we want to improve. Then the other one was really about the car; the current issues that I have with this car.”
When pushed by reporters in Hungary about the documents, Hamilton continued, “I think all I can say is that the team has every ingredient that they need to win. They have every ingredient they need to win World Championships. It’s literally just about getting things all aligned and running smoothly and freely, stress-free, which we’re all trying to do.”
Ferrari has shown progress in Belgium and Hungary. Charles Leclerc secured a podium in Spa-Francochamps, while putting his SF-25 on pole position for the first time this season. Signs are showing a mini Ferrari revival, but it has come too late for this season. All they can hope for is that they finish strong and take what they can into next season.
Will Lewis Hamilton’s documents help Ferrari next season?
Next season will see a new regulation cycle introduced in F1. Teams will have been preparing for this change over the season, as well as developing their 2025 challengers. With the slate wiped clean, Lewis Hamilton had admitted that his documents contained details about the 2026 car.
Hamilton explained that his documents clarified “some things to take onto next year’s car and some that you need to work on and change for next year.”
Ferrari Reveals Why Suspension Focus Could Be the Key to Cracking F1’s 2026 Regulations
Hamilton is a seven-time world champion who has experience in developing cars. In the 2017 and 2018 seasons, when he was fighting hard against Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel, he helped Mercedes out-develop the Scuderia.
Listening to Hamilton will be wise for Ferrari as he knows what car the team need to design to win races and titles. Failure to do so might cost them a shot at the championship in a season where the slate is wiped clean and everyone starts their cars from scratch. The 2026 season could be where the Italian giants put their past failures right.
