Aston Martin to Trial Adrian Newey’s 2026 Technologies on 2025 F1 Car

Aston Martin has had a difficult start to the 2025 season as they find themselves in seventh place in the constructors’ championship. This is not what the British team expected after a 2023 season where the team scored eight podiums. However, the car development has let them down as they hoped to bounce back from an underwhelming 2024 season.

The AMR25 has not lived up to the standards of a team hoping to challenge for race wins and titles. The Miami GP was another tough weekend as the Silverstone-based team was the slowest on race day. The bosses at Aston Martin have decided that they will continue to upgrade the car, but with 2026 technology.

Aston Martin will use 2026 technology on their 2025 challenger

In Miami, Aston Martin lost around half a second in qualifying, meaning the team is going backwards. With the money spent to upgrade their facilities, this will not please Lawrence Stroll. The Canadian has also brought in top personnel to help the team push forward, but has yet to see the fruition.

However, one key signing the Green team made could be key to unlocking the potential of the AMR25. Former Red Bull design legend Adrian Newey was brought in to help make the 2026 car a title challenger. However, Newey’s new team will look to add the 2026 technology to the 2025 car to push it further up the grid.

“He’s Just Preparing a Fast Car”: Adrian Newey Lays the Foundation for Aston Martin’s 2026 Challenger

As quoted by es.motorpsort.com, Aston Martin team principal, Andy Cowell, said: “The result reflects the performance of the car, and we aren’t happy with it. We are analysing all the information we have of the drivers and the data, trying to understand.”

“There are technologies we’ve thought about for 2026 that we are going to test on the 2025 car. It’s the only way to validate things for the future – if it works in the race, then it truly works. So we are going to use this car to test and perfect tools for a team, which is still young, that is now starting to use resources that big teams have been capitalising on for decades.”

Despite poor form from Aston Martin, they have a chance of still being the best of the rest behind the top teams. They will not give up on this season, like others are rumoured to be. They will attempt to use 2025 as a springboard for 2026 as they learn about the new aspect of next season’s car.

Why is Aston Martin struggling?

At this point in the season in 2023, Aston Martin was flying and was Red Bull’s closest competitor. However, two years on, the team is struggling to score points. They have only recorded 14 from the opening six races, all scored by Lance Stroll. But why is Aston Martin regressing?

Aston Martin’s main goal for 2025 was to make the car more drivable than its 2024 predecessor. This has been achieved to a degree, but the AMR25 still lacks the downforce levels of their rivals. Fernando Alonso said slow corners were the weakest part of the car’s performance.

What Role Adrian Newey Will Play in Shaping Aston Martin’s F1 Future Alongside Fernando Alonso

Aston Martin failed to develop on their strong start in 2023, and their downward trajectory has not stopped since. They hope Newey’s influence on their 2026 car can indirectly help them this season. If so, Aston Martin could have an upturn in form and rescue the season from mediocrity.
