Over the past couple of weekends, we haven’t seen the best messages from Lewis Hamilton. He has been considerably unhappy with himself after his performances in Belgium and Hungary. However, as we enter the summer break, the 7-time-champion has a powerful message to his fans.
Ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was knocked out in both SQ1 and Q1. All while his teammate was able to qualify close to Ferrari’s rivals at the front. Last weekend in Hungary, Hamilton got knocked out in Q2, after which he had a concerning message where he claimed he was ‘useless’ and that Ferrari would be better off with someone else in the cockpit of the Ferrari. But he’s not giving up just yet.
Lewis Hamilton makes bold statement to come back after summer break
With the Hungarian Grand Prix concluded, there’s a 3-week summer break that should help the new Ferrari driver recharge. Here’s what he stated on Ferrari’s post-race report after a difficult Hungarian GP:
“It’s been a challenging weekend and one to move on from. We weren’t able to make the progress we hoped for, but I’m grateful for the effort everyone in the team put in throughout the weekend. Now we head into the break. I’ll be using the time to reset, recharge, and come back stronger. I’m not where I want to be yet, but the fight’s not over – don’t count me out.”

There is no doubt that Hamilton has had a difficult season so far. There was a lot of hype around his move to Ferrari for the 2025 season. While there were some fans who were expecting Hamilton to amaze the team with his performance right away, there were more realistic fans who knew there would be an adjusting period for the 7-time champion.
Hamilton had driven for the Mercedes F1 team from 2013 to 2024. During these 12 years, the Brit has become used to the Mercedes power units and the basic design concepts of the Mercedes F1 cars. Hence, it is difficult to suddenly get into a completely different car and push it to its limit.
However, it’s not been all bad for Hamilton. Back in Shanghai, he won the Sprint Race to take his maiden race win with Ferrari. We have also seen glimpses of pace from the knighted driver in Silverstone. Even in Belgium, Hamilton managed to finish 7th in the race after starting from the pit lane. As he gets more and more adjusted to the car, we can see more and more pace from him going forward.
Hamilton usually performs better in the second half of the season
Looking at Hamilton’s past years in F1, he has usually done better during the 2nd half of the season. We can take examples from 2018, 2016, 2014, and even in recent years when Mercedes was not fighting for the Championship. Hamilton’s former team principal, Toto Wolff, said the same ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
“He’s always been strong on the second half of the season so, never write Lewis Hamilton off,” said Toto.

After a difficult first half of the season like this year, the summer break allows the drivers to disconnect from all the expectations and additional pressures and just recharge. This is crucial for a Formula 1 driver’s mental state. Given that the drivers are pushing their F1 cars to the limit every time they get in, they need to be in top physical AND mental state.
This is exactly what Lewis Hamilton will be doing during these next 3 weeks. Given that the difficult first half of the season he has had with Ferrari, he needs to just take a step back, reanalyse, and get back in the car to push again in Zandvoort.
