Lewis Hamilton’s been on a run of poor form in recent races. After going out in SQ1 and Q1 in Belgium, Hamilton qualified and finished P12 in Hungary. Afterwards, Hamilton declared he’s looking forward to some much-needed time off during the summer break.
Despite his poor form, Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur says Hamilton is still motivated. He’s very frustrated, but he’s still ready to turn things around.
Fred Vasseur says he doesn’t need to motivate Lewis Hamilton
While Lewis Hamilton had a rough week in Hungary, his teammate was the star on Saturday. Despite a poor track record at the Hungaroring, Leclerc was able to steal pole position from the two McLarens, secure his first pole of the season.
On Sunday, things were looking good for Leclerc. He got away well and held P1 through the first corner. In Hungary, track position is everything, and he was pulling away from Oscar Piastri in P2. However, after his second pitstop, something happened, and his pace fell off a cliff.

While the result wasn’t what he wanted, it was still a strong weekend for Leclerc. Meanwhile, his teammate was unable to make up any places in the race and finished outside of the points. While these results can wear on a driver’s psyche, Fred Vasseur says Hamilton’s still as motivated as ever.
“I don’t need to motivate him. Honestly, he’s frustrated, but not demotivated. You know, it’s a completely different story,” Vasseur said.
After a month off for the summer break, the hope is Hamilton will come back rejuvenated. Ferrari will need him on his A game as they try to fend off Mercedes for P2 in the constructors.
Hamilton says not to count him out after the summer break
While Hamilton was dejected after another poor result, he urged fans not to count him out. He’s going to use the break to reset and recharge, and hopefully come back better than before.
“We weren’t able to make the progress we hoped for, but I’m grateful for the effort everyone in the team put in throughout the weekend. Now we head into the break. I’ll be using the time to reset, recharge, and come back stronger. I’m not where I want to be yet, but the fight’s not over – don’t count me out.” Ferrari’s post-race report.

With 10 races to go, Ferrari leads Mercedes by 26 points. Charles Leclerc has been very strong in recent races, so if Hamilton can turn things around, they should be able to secure second place for the second straight year.
