Lewis Hamilton Sees Silver Lining Amid Upgrade Storm as Rain and Redemption Loom Over British GP

Lewis Hamilton has been the man to beat at the British GP, having won the race nine times in his eighteen entries. He has an incredible record, having stood on the podium at every race since his victory in 2014. However, Hamilton has struggled for strong form in the Scarlett Red of Ferrari. Hamilton’s highest position this season has been fourth, and Charles Leclerc has dominated the inter-team rivalry.

Despite this, Hamilton believes he can achieve a good result in front of his home crowd. The two practice sessions on Friday were positive for the Brit, and he says he can “dream of a strong weekend.”

Lewis Hamilton buoyed after a positive Friday running

Lewis Hamilton topped the timing sheets in FP1 and came third during the second practice session. This pace was backed up by his teammate Charles Leclerc, who finished second in FP2. And Hamilton believes the solid Friday running will help him challenge his rivals.

He said: “It was a really good day. Red Bull and McLaren have an upgrade, so for us to be in the mix still, given they have had a step today, is really positive.”

“Definitely feel we can dream of having a strong weekend, but putting it all together and extracting it is another thing. But I will prepare myself the best I can to make sure we get the best result. Tomorrow and Sunday, there is rain coming as well.”

Lewis Hamilton Sparks Ferrari Revival Talk After Surprising Austria Surge From Mega Upgrade

FP1 saw Hamilton top the timing sheets ahead of both McLaren drivers. FP2 saw Lando Norris quickest, but Hamilton was only three-tenths off the pace. And in the long run, it was Charles Leclerc who led the field, showing that the Ferrari has speed around Silverstone.

The new floor on the SF-25 has enabled the Ferrari to run at a lower ride height. This helps create maximum downforce and improve the handling of the car. If Ferrari can get the setup right, and with Hamilton’s record on home soil, the Scuderia and Lewis could be celebrating at the chequered flag on Sunday.

Lewis Hamilton’s fantastic record at Silverstone

Lewis Hamilton has recorded nine wins on home turf, the most of any F1 driver at a specific circuit. The seven-time world champion first won at Silverstone in the 2008 season, providing a masterclass in treacherous conditions. His latest win was in the 2024 season, where he won in mixed conditions, having failed to win a race in the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Hamilton also has an impressive record when he hasn’t won the British GP. The 40-year-old has stood on the podium in every season since, and including, the 2014 season. Even when Mercedes struggled for pace, Hamilton managed to pull two third-placed finishes in 2022 and 2023.

Hamilton has said Silverstone would be a “special place” for him to secure his first podium since joining Ferrari. After an impressive Friday, can the Brit manage it? Let us know in the comments below.
