Ferrari introduced a new rear suspension upgrade at the Belgian Grand Prix. Despite a tough weekend for Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc was able to place P4 in the sprint and P3 in the feature race to help bring home a solid points haul for the team.
After the race, both Hamilton and Leclerc had some positive things to say about the upgrades. They both feel confident in the car and believe the upgrades will help them secure P2 in the constructors’ championship.
Lewis Hamilton feels confident in Ferrari upgrades despite slow start to the weekend
The weekend got off to an incredibly tough start for Lewis Hamilton. He spun in SQ1 and could only make up a couple of places in the sprint, finishing P15. Later that day, Hamilton once again found himself out in the early stages after his second lap in Q1 was deleted due to track limits.

After some setup changes and taking a new power unit, Hamilton started the feature race from the pit lane. He made a few overtakes right away before switching to slick tires early and making up a heap of places once the rest of the grid pitted. By the end of the race, Hamilton had made up 11 places and finished P7.
After the race, Hamilton told Sky Sports F1 that he feels more confident in the car after a few sessions with the new suspension than he did early in the week.
“Yeah, we got the settings better,” Hamilton told Sky Sports F1. “And definitely, as you could see, I was catching. I was feeling more and more confident, bit by bit, with more experience on it.”
Hamilton showed a lot of pace in the race, and if it weren’t for being under-fueled and having to lift and coast, he could’ve been on for a top-five finish.
Charles Leclerc echoes Hamilton’s confidence
Charles Leclerc had a much better weekend than Hamilton. He qualified and finished P4 in the sprint before taking home a podium in the feature race. His efforts brought home 20 very important points for Ferrari in the constructors’ championship.

After the race, Leclerc echoed Hamilton’s confidence in the car. He says there’s still a long way to go, but they should be proud of what they accomplished at Spa.
“Definitely, I think we should be proud of what we have done this weekend,” Leclerc told Sky Sports F1. “With the upgrades this weekend, the team has given us some confidence inside the car, at least on my side, and I’m happy with it. It’s a small step in the right direction. Many more steps need to be done, but we are working in the right direction.”
Ferrari currently leads Mercedes by 28 points in the constructors’ championship. They’re trending in the right direction while Mercedes, who started the season hot, has cooled down significantly over the past six races.
