Mattia Binotto Confirms: Mick Schumacher a Contender for 2025 Sauber F1 Seat

Ever since Mick Schumacher parted ways with Haas in 2022, he has been constantly looking for a way back in. Now, his return to F1 seems more plausible as Mattia Binotto has confirmed that Mick Schumacher is a contender for the 2025 seat at Sauber.

Earlier this year, Mattia Binotto was chosen to lead the charge for Audi Motorsports as they prepare to take over for Sauber Racing. Given that whichever driver drives for Sauber in 2025 will continue to drive for Audi in 2026, Binotto is playing a huge part in deciding the team’s lineup.

Mick Schumacher could be back in F1 next year

Mattia Binotto has now confirmed that Schumacher will be in contention for the 2025 seat at Sauber.

“We are definitely evaluating him.”

“I met him and spoke to him. I have known him for a long time having been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy. I know his strengths and advantages. He is one of the names we have in mind.”

When Schumacher drove for Haas in 2022, he showed some signs of a strong pace but was never consistent. Since then, Mick has gained a lot of experience in racing, and he has also been serving as a reserve driver for Mercedes.

As a reserve driver for Mercedes, Mick has had the opportunity to work alongside 7-time Champion, Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes also loaned Mick to Alpine to drive their Hypercar in the WEC series.

With Audi being a German manufacturer, they will naturally be interested in having German drivers in their lineup. They’ve already filled one seat with a German driver, Nico Hulkenberg. Now they could bring in another German driver with Mick Schumacher.

Mick Schumacher not giving up on F1 Dream

Just a few days back, Mick Schumacher mentioned that he is still searching hard to get back into F1.

“As soon as I know what I will be doing, I will for sure put a press release out there and let you all know. But definitely, the hope is for Formula 1, because that is what I dreamt of since I was a little boy, but it definitely feels great to be in WEC.”

While Mick is enjoying racing in WEC, he yearns to get back to Formula 1. For most motorsport drivers, that is the dream. F1 is considered to be the pinnacle of motorsport. If you can get into the sport, you are racing among the best of the best drivers in the world. So it is understandable why Mick is looking for a way back into F1.
