Max Verstappen and Red Bull Back in Form and Dominating Races After a Rocky F1 Season

Max Verstappen dominated the Azerbaijan GP to secure a second win in a row, the first time he has managed that since June last season. The RB21 looks to have come alive as Yuki Tsunoda recorded his best result in Red Bull colours on the streets of Baku, too.

Verstappen believes that the RB21 is performing the best it has all season, as he secured his sixth grand slam of his career. However, the Dutchman is playing down the last two victories, claiming it is too soon to know if this resurgence will last.

Max Verstappen says the RB21 is performing well

After taking two dominating wins on the bounce, Max Verstappen believes that his car is at its peak. The media asked the four-time world champion if the RB21 felt at its best in Baku.

He replied, “Together with Monza, yep. To have a weekend like this it was very important.

“For us, that’s another just great result. A bit unusual – this season has been really swinging left and right, but at least now two weekends in a row, it’s been going really well.”

However, Verstappen was quick to pour cold water on the resurgence. He said it was “difficult” to know how long Red Bull’s winning form will last. There have been signs of resurgence before, like when the Dutchman won the Imola GP, only to struggle to keep pace with the leaders in Monaco.

Singapore is the next track, which offers a different type of circuit. It requires higher levels of downforce. This has been the Achilles heel for Red Bull this season, as they struggle with excessive tyre wear. A win here would change the perspective and make Red Bull the team to beat again.

Is Max Verstappen back in the title race?

Verstappen is 69 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri, who failed to finish in Baku. There are also seven races remaining, with three of them including sprint races. However, Verstappen doesn’t believe he is in the title conversation just yet.

He explained, “I don’t rely on hope. But it’s seven rounds left. Sixty-nine points is a lot, so I personally don’t think about it.

“I just go race by race, what I have been doing basically the whole season, just trying to do the best we can, try to score the most points that we can, and then after Abu Dhabi we’ll know.”

Oscar Piastri Refuses to Rule Out Max Verstappen in F1 Drivers’ Championship Fight

Verstappen will need a lot of luck to go his way if he is to win the championship. The 27-year-old would need to have the fastest car every weekend, while hoping that McLaren starts to fall behind the competition.

McLaren had a poor Azerbaijan GP, with Piastri failing to score and Lando Norris only picking up six points. This has slightly opened the door for Verstappen, who will need more weekends like in Baku. However, even if Max wins races, if the McLarens are on the podium alongside him, then he won’t catch enough. He will need Mercedes and Ferrari drivers to take points from McLaren.

If there is one driver on the grid who can do it, it is Max Verstappen, but will he? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
