McLaren Sets Sights on 2025 Championship as Norris and Piastri Aim for Team Success

After claiming the 2024 Constructors’ Championship, there is only one goal for McLaren; win the Constructors’ AND Drivers’ Championships in 2025. Ahead of the Livery launch at the O2, Zak Brown and Oscar Piastri gave their thoughts on what the team’s and the drivers’ personal goals are for the upcoming season.

McLaren is one of the teams with the highest expectations for the 2025 season. Not just because they win the 2024 WCC, but because they arguably have the strongest driver lineup on the grid.

Zak Brown sets McLaren team goal ahead of 2025 F1 Season

During the livery launch at the F1 75 Live, Zak Brown gave his thoughts on what he expects from his driver during the season.

“We’d like to go for both the drivers’ and constructors’, and a 1-2, and letting Lando and Oscar decide who’s one and two! It should be super close out there. Every weekend last year, there always seemed to be someone who could disrupt things. I wouldn’t be surprised if more than four teams win.” Zak Brown quotes.

Winning the double is always a challenging task, especially after how things ended last year. There are currently 3, maybe 4 teams who are capable of winning races this year. These are McLaren, Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes. Zak Brown expects some drivers from other teams also to win a few races, these are the 4 teams who will be challenging for the Championship.

At the end of last year, McLaren took the title with some immense competition from Ferrari and Max Verstappen in the Red Bull. So this year is completely unpredictable. However, we will get an idea of how the pecking order will start after the pre-season testing which is scheduled to take place next week in Bahrain.

Oscar Piastri to work together with Lando Norris

Let’s not forget that there are two Championships to fight for here. While Zak Brown will be more focused on the Constructors’ Championship, the drivers will have their eye on the Drivers’ Championship as well. Here’s what Oscar had to say about fighting for the 2 Championships in 2025:

“I like to think the position we’re in is partly down to us working together so well. Of course, we want personal success, but we’re doing it in a way that helps the team. We’re both going into the season with our eyes on winning the championship. We’ve shown that we’re respectful.”

From Oscar Piastri’s perspective, it’s quite simple. The first priority is to win the Constructors’ Championship. Once that is in the bag, the teammates can battle it out for the Drivers’ Championship.

While this does make sense, we can’t count out the drivers from the other teams. One driver we definitely cannot count out is Max Verstappen. He has a knack for winning races even with a poor car. We saw this happen last year when Verstappen drove around the car’s issues to win the Drivers’ Championship while his team were only able to take 3rd place in the Constructors’ Championship.

But right now, we can’t predict anything. Let’s wait a few more weeks for the first race at Melbourne. We should get a good idea of the pecking order from then on. Who do you think will take the Championships this year? Post your thoughts in the comments section below.
