Mick Schumacher Refuses to Give Up F1 Dream As He Continues to Target 2025 Return

Following his departure in 2022, Mick Schumacher has been eager to regain a seat in F1 as soon as possible. He debuted for Haas in 2021, following a spectacular F2 championship campaign in the prior year. Schumacher became McLaren’s and Mercedes’ reserve drivers throughout the 2023 season and subsequently chose to remain with Mercedes for 2024. He also currently drives for Alpine in WEC, earning his first podium at Fuji in September.

Despite this, Schumacher is still very hopeful of earning back a seat in F1 in the coming seasons. With very few seats available on the grid for 2025, he’s keen to prove that he deserves a second chance to succeed in F1. Schumacher has particularly been linked to rumours of a potential move to Kick Sauber for next year, which is set to become AUDI in 2026.

Mick Schumacher’s 2025 F1 Chances

As mentioned, Schumacher has supposedly been in talks for a possible move to Kick Sauber in 2025, but is it likely to go ahead? The driver has a good relationship with the team’s future principal, Mattia Binotto, following his prior graduation from the Ferrari Driver Academy, with Binotto having still been the principal of Ferrari at the time.

Kick Sauber’s imminent transition to Audi in 2026 is also a factor in the decision to give Schumacher a seat, due to German origins that he shares with the brand.

Here’s what Mick said about his future “As soon as I know what I will be doing, I will for sure put a press release out there and let you all know. But definitely, the hope is for Formula 1, because that is what I dreamt of since I was a little boy, but it definitely feels great to be in WEC.”

Despite his good relations with both Kick’s principal and new owners, however, there are several drivers also in talks for the 2025 seat. Some sources suggest that Kick may choose to continue with their current driver Valtteri Bottas, whilst F2 drivers Franco Colapinto and Gabriel Bortoletto are also in contention for the seat.

Schumacher equally may have opportunities with RB for 2025, or even potentially with Red Bull due to Perez’s future with the team constantly being questioned. Despite Franz Tost, the former principal of Alpha Tauri, arguing that there was ‘no room’ for Schumacher in the Red Bull family just last year, it seems he is a very possible candidate for the RB seat in 2025.

Did Mick Schumacher Get Fired From Haas F1 Team?

Throughout his time at Haas, Schumacher came under fire for the numerous incidents he was involved in on track. In light of this, fans wondered whether his crashes were a big factor in the team’s decision to terminate Schumacher’s contract. When questioned, former team principal Geunther Steiner admitted that they were a part of what led Haas to ultimately replace Schumacher with Nico Hulkenberg in the 2023 season.

After his terrifying crash in the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix, it was estimated that Schumacher cost Haas an estimated $4.5 million in damage alone. Additionally, he had multiple other crashes across the season, with Mick causing an average of $1 million of damage in each one. Schumacher left Haas F1 Team following the conclusion of the 2022 season, earning a total of 12 championship points across his time in the car.
