Veteran Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso dismisses comments about the recently released F1 movie’s significance to the sport. As the most experienced driver on the track, he has seen Formula 1 evolve from pure motorsport to an entertainment spectacle.
Despite these changes to suit the modern era, Alonso remains steadfast in his racing priorities, ignoring all distractions from the media and fans. While others highlight how this season echoes the film’s plot, he ignores these comparisons and emphasises the real priorities.
Fernando Alonso’s blunt response to the F1 Movie
Starring Hollywood star Brad Pitt, F1: The Movie has become a major talking point in the paddock since its release in July. Filming for the picture took place at multiple race weekends, with Pitt even driving a modified car designed to look like a fictional 11th team.
While the project certainly generated excitement among fans, Alonso has not bought into the Hollywood allure. The former two-time champion has made it clear that he sees no connection between the film’s scripted drama and the reality of racing.

When asked about the movie’s influence, Alonso was very dismissive. “That is not the reality,” the Spanish driver declared. He went on to add that the media and fans “are not our priority”.
He rejected any link between Nico Hülkenberg’s Silverstone podium, which was his first ever after 239 race starts. In the movie, older driver Sonny Hayes finds surprising success, and fans noticed how real life echoed the cinematic narrative.
Alonso claimed there is “no correlation” between cinema’s Formula 1 fairy tale and the reality of the race track. “I don’t think Nico or I care too much about what the next-generation fans think,” he told the media.
His remarks highlight a growing tension between Formula 1’s push for entertainment and a purist racing ethos. While projects like the F1 movie and Netflix’s Drive to Survive have successfully expanded Formula 1’s global appeal, Alonso believes the sport should remain focused on competition rather than becoming a backdrop for cinematic drama.
Focused On Still Chasing Success
At 44, Alonso is the oldest driver on the grid, but his focus remains squarely on adding to his legacy. Having not won a race since 2013, he has little interest in distractions- even if they involve A-list celebrities.
“We only try to win races, try to work with our team the best we can, and deliver the performance,” Alonso explained. “The fans and the people outside watching TV, don’t have the full picture of what is going on and the difference in performance between the cars”

Going eight races without scoring points, Fernando Alonso has endured a difficult opening to the 2025 season. However, he has since turned things around. In the last six races, Alonso has finished in the top 10 five times, including a strong fifth place at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
During the summer break, Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin hope to build momentum for the second half of the year. While Brad Pitt’s film may bring new audiences to Formula 1, Alonso’s focus remains unchanged. For drivers like him, the real story is written during the laps and not in screenplays.
