Aston Martin has had a difficult start to the 2025 F1 season as they sit ninth in the constructors’ championship. Lance Stroll scored all their points in the opening eight rounds before Fernando Alonso scored in Barcelona. Stroll’s points had not been down to outright pace, as in Australia, it was switching onto the right tyre in the wet, and in China, there were three disqualifications.
Following the Chinese GP, Stroll had not finished a race higher than fifteenth as the Aston Martin lacked pace. On some weekends, the Silverstone-based team was the slowest. However, in Imola, upgrades propelled Aston Martin higher up the grid. Alonso managed to make it three consecutive Q3 appearances. However, Stroll couldn’t match his teammate in Spain, a result which reportedly made him lose his temper.
Lance Stroll lost his temper after Q2 exit, according to reports
At the Spanish GP, Fernando Alonso made it into Q3. However, his teammate, Lance Stroll, was unable to. The Canadian finished in P14, over half a second slower than the two-time world champion. And sources claim that this result made Stroll lose his temper. The claims are that he damaged equipment and swore at team members.
Aston Martin later pulled Lance Stroll from the Spanish GP, due to the 26-year-old having to have a procedure on his wrist from an injury in 2023. When asked about the incident, an Aston Martin source claimed “Lance was upset” and the injury and the incident were unrelated. However, later, an Aston Martin source denied that the incident occurred.
Stroll Out, But No Sub? The Rule That Leaves Aston Martin One Driver Short in Spain
This wouldn’t be the first time Stroll has had an outburst over a poor result. At the 2023 Qatar GP, he stormed out of the back of the garage and had an incident with his trainer. He later apologised for the altercation, but has yet to comment on the reports at the Spanish GP.
Lance Stroll has had a tough season
Lance Stroll had a good start to the season, scoring in the opening two rounds. However, since the Chinese GP, he has yet to score in a main race. In the following race in Japan, Stroll finished last on the track, and the downward spiral continued.
He is yet to outqualify his teammate, Fernando Alonso, after the two-time world champion started higher than him in 19 races last season. People have questioned whether Fernando Alonso still has the pace, but the Spaniard is still quick over one lap.
Fernando Alonso Opens up About Retirement and Why He’s Still Not Done
Lance is now doubtful to race in Canada due to having surgery on his wrist. A break from the stress of the F1 paddock might be what the Canadian needs to allow him to reset. However, his form needs to improve if Aston Martin is to climb up the standings when he returns.
