Frédéric Vasseur replaced Mattia Binotto as Ferrari’s team principal in 2023. Binotto was under immense pressure to deliver results with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, but it ultimately did not work out. Vasseur stepped in after a stint with Sauber, which was later known as Alfa Romeo.
Since then, Vasseur has led Ferrari to six Grand Prix wins. Although it is impressive that he has led them to somewhat decent race glory, it must be noted that Ferrari is still a long way from the top. This has led speculations on Vasseur’s future to swirl, which even his rival thinks is bizarre.
Toto Wolff issues public support to F1 rival Frédéric Vasseur
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff recently weighed in on the rumors surrounding Vasseur’s future with the Italians.
He said, “It seems to be a bit of a revolving door with teams generally. I think in F1, you can’t buy time, and you need to give senior leadership the time to get on top of things.”
“They won’t get any better”
Toto Wolff has voiced his support for Fred Vasseur, with Wolff stating that Vasseur “just needs to be given the trust” 📝👇#F1 https://t.co/dFlhsYlCSQ

“Fred is one of the best racing managers that I know. If I wasn’t here, I would take Fred. So, I respect him a lot. He’s a great personality. He’s a straightforward guy. He doesn’t do politics and lies. He knows what he’s talking about,” Wolff added.
Wolff, being in the business for decades, would certainly know a thing or two about what it takes to be successful in Formula 1. Vasseur’s contract with Ferrari expires at the end of the 2025 season, and the team will have to reconsider whether they would like to extend his tenure as the team principal.
Lewis Hamilton backs Ferrari boss amid uncertain future
It would certainly be decided by the higher-ups, but Lewis Hamilton has delivered his take as well. He mentioned that Vasseur has his full support, as the British driver hunts for his eighth Drivers’ Championship.
“Firstly, I love working with Fred – Fred’s the main reason I’m in this team and got the opportunity to be here, for which I’m forever grateful, and we’re in this together,” he said.
“We’re working hard in the background, things aren’t perfect but, for me, I’m here to work with the team but also with Fred – I want Fred here. I do believe Fred is the person to take us to the top, so that’s that. So it’s all nonsense,” Hamilton added.
Lewis Hamilton Urges Ferrari to Deliver as Key Upgrades Target Major SF-25 Weaknesses
The Italians are still nowhere near their glory days from when Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna were there. But they are currently the closest to McLaren, sitting at 2nd in the Constructors’ standings. Hamilton has been pretty vocal this year about the team’s struggles and has even called for upgrades recently.
