Yuki Tsunoda Slams Red Bull’s Miscommunication After Pit Call Disaster Wrecks Belgian GP Result

Yuki Tsunoda made a stunning attempt during qualifying to land in P7 ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix. The sudden surge in speed was mainly due to the Red Bull team’s bold gamble. They chose to upgrade his RB21’s floor at the last minute, even though they kept the spare for the lead driver, Max Verstappen.

The Japanese driver being inconsistent with his performances, and quite unfortunate as well. That would be one word to describe his most recent race at Spa, where he lost key positions and time due to his team’s mistake.

Yuki Tsunoda puts Red Bull team on blast over costly mistake

The entire grid got off to a rolling start on intermediate tyres after the rain spoiled the teams’ strategies in Belgium. But when it was time for Red Bull to switch over to medium tyres, they were a lap later than most of the other teams, including Verstappen’s.

This caused Tsunoda to lose several positions during the race, and he couldn’t make up the places he lost even after the pit stop. Lewis Hamilton, who pitted a lap earlier than the rest, was able to make up 11 places in a sensational charge, something that the Red Bull team failed to do.

After the race, Tsunoda could not hide his frustration, as the young driver called out his team during an interview with Viaplay.

He said, “Well, to be honest, not sure I can say that’s unfortunate, to be honest. I was pretty clear that I said to change the tyres, to dry tyre a lap before I pitted, which was the right moment. I don’t know if there was a miscommunication between us, or a misunderstanding.”

“Unfortunately, they called me in right after I passed the pit entry, so obviously I can’t go to the pit, and had to do one more lap. I lost 5 more positions,” Tsunoda added.

It was Tsunoda’s best qualifying session this year with Red Bull, and a much-needed boost in spirits after he replaced Liam Lawson to take over the hot seat. But the team’s decision forced him to the back of the pack even after an impressive qualifying session.

Helmut Marko sends bold message to Tsunoda

After the race, Red Bull’s advisor Helmut Marko weighed in on the team’s mistake that cost him track positions. He said to media, “Yes, there was a miscommunication and then his speed was also not good.”

“The pitstop wasn’t optimal — that’s where he lost the positions. We’ll need to clarify the exact reason by comparing notes with the engineers. Of course, going from P7 to P13 isn’t what we were hoping for,” Marko added.

Marko acknowledges that Tsunoda’s speed wasn’t up to mark, but the Red Bull team’s late call was what pushed him out of the points positions. Tsunoda’s RB21 has also been pretty inconsistent, which hasn’t done him any favors for his chances to continue.
