Williams Racing was one of the worst-performing teams on the F1 grid a few years ago. But in 2024, the team has made some moves that could lead to promising results soon. One of these moves was the recent signing of the team’s new title sponsor, Atlassian.
The Williams Racing team has been in F1 since 1977. Since then, they have won 9 Championships, with most of them coming in the 1990s. But in the last decade, there is no doubt that the team has lost its flair and is now looking to work their way back up the order.
Williams Racing’s new sponsor indicates an upward trajectory for the team
Atlassian entered into a multi-year deal with Williams to become their title sponsor. This deal is rumoured to be the biggest sponsorship contract for Williams in over a decade. The goal for both Atlassian and Williams is quite simple, they want the team back on the top in the near future.
Without the signing of Carlos Sainz Jr, the deal with Atlassian may not have been possible. Every team Sainz has driven for in the past 5 years has improved to the top of the grid. He drove for both McLaren and Ferrari when they were at their lowest and by the time Sainz left the teams, they were podium contenders. Atlassian has hopes that Sainz can do something similar with Williams as well.

Former F1 Champion and Williams driver, Jenson Button gave a lot of credit to the team’s leadership while talking about the deal.
“It just shows the progress that this team has been making over the years to land such a big partner as Atlassian, it is a big deal,” the 2009 world champion explained.
“They can see where this team is going, they can see the leadership of this team and how they’ve turned it around over the last few years.”
Although there are high hopes for Williams in the future, we might not see much progress this year. The recent additions to the team will take some time to take effect. Besides, Williams will now be focusing on developing the 2026 car rather than the 2025. By now, we all know that there will be major changes in the regulation in 2026. So this will be Williams’ opportunity to fight their way back to the podium.
Who are Williams’ new sponsors – Atlassian
Atlassian is a SaaS company that is based out of Australia. They own software like Trello, Jira, Confluence, and more that are used by businesses all over the world. Roughly 83% of Fortune 500 companies around the world use products owned by Atlassian.

As of February 2025, the company is valued at $7.1 Trillion. This easily makes them Williams’ largest sponsor in the past decade. Although it is not known how much the sponsorship deal is worth, we can be certain that it is at least a 7-figure number.
This financial boost is desperately needed for Williams Racing if they hope to develop a strong car for the 2026 season. It will be interesting to see how the coming years play out for Williams.
