Formula 1 is reaching the fever peak at Monaco as the third practice session brings even more uncertainty. The first two sessions were no less interesting as the teams’ struggle continued.
Due to its size, the Monte Carlo circuit is especially difficult for the drivers. The car’s width prevents wheel-to-wheel racing and makes overtaking a tough endeavour. This is further made difficult by the current track conditions. The track is reportedly low-grip grip this time around, increasing the driver’s woes.
Leclerc favourite for pole position in Monaco
Monaco’s home hero is having a scintillating time on his home soil. Charles Leclerc has been fantastic in all the sessions so far. He has been sitting on top of the timesheets for all practice sessions.
Leclerc is, without any shadow of a doubt, the favourite to win the Monaco Grand Prix. He won it last year, and his fans here would want him to continue the streak. Ferrari is having a great weekend overall for now. However, Hamilton did have an incident at the closing minutes of the session, bringing the practice to an early close.
Leclerc Leads Interrupted FP2 as Red Flags Shake Up Running Order in Monaco
Ferrari’s rivals, on the other hand, seem to be having difficulty adapting to the low-grip track. Max Verstappen is also not so far behind, as he managed to place P2 for the third practice session. The Dutch driver is the favourite behind Ferrari to stand on the top step.
What’s adding more to the excitement are the two mandatory pit stops at Monaco and the uncertainty regarding the soft tyre.
C6 soft tyre continues to create confusion for the second weekend in a row
In addition to the lack of grip and pace, the tyres are also adding an additional point of consideration. The soft tyre is showing mixed results, which teams are struggling to compute.
The C6 soft tyre is usually the fastest on average, but degrades the fastest as well. However, in Monaco, its performance seems to be very polar. From the results, C6 is the fastest in the first sector, but quickly gets overheated in the final sector of the track on the same lap.
Charles Leclerc Tops FP1 in Monaco After a Difficult Session
This variability puts mediums as the better tyre as Max Verstappen managed to take P2 in FP3 on mediums. However, Leclerc’s time still looks difficult to beat, as Ferrari has managed to suppress the issues with the softs.
The qualifying will showcase where the teams stand, since Monaco is heavily decided by the grid order. Ferrari will want to continue their pace from the practice sessions and take the top row to get their first win of the season.
