Formula 2 is going to Bahrain this week, along with F1 and F3. It was in Australia where we last the F2 cars out on track, however, we did not see a featured race due to the extreme rain that lashed over Melbourne.
Although the featured race was cancelled, the qualification for it and the sprint race itself were held successfully.
Joshua Durksen took the victory in the sprint race
During Saturday’s sprint race at Melbourne, Joshua Durksen put his AIX at the top of the podium. It was his 2nd consecutive win after he finished P1 at Abu Dhabi in 2024.
Gabriele Mini took pole for the featured race at the qualifying session ahead of Victor Martins. On his final, Mini completed a 1:29.286 to beat the ART Grand Prix driver to the top spot, with Jak Crawford ending up third, over three-tenths behind for DAMS Lucas Oil.

Formula 2 has a reverse grid system for the sprint race. This means that only one qualification session is held for both the sprint race and featured race, however, the top 10 of the grid are reversed for the sprint race.
Fornaroli had the pole for the sprint, but Durksen managed to overtake the Invicta driver immediately and maintained his lead till the end, scoring 10 points. There were two safety car restarts during the race, but Durksen held onto the lead. The featured race was cancelled due to the rain on Sunday, but F1 held the race regardless.
Formula 2 held testing at Bahrain after Melbourne
Formula 2 came into Bahrain far ahead of the other series. The testing session was meant to gather more data for the cars before the return on 11th April.
Day 1 of the tests saw Roman Stanek and Victor Martins take top spots in the morning and afternoon sessions, respectively. Stanek topped out at 1:44.789 while Victor Martins did a 1:42.536, thus crowning him the top lap time of the day.

On day 2, Richard Verschoor and Gabriel Mini scored the fastest laps in their respective sessions. Verschoor put his MP at the top with a 1:46.475 during the morning session. Gabriel Mini scored the fastest lap yet of the session with a 1:42.488 for the afternoon session.
On the final day, John Bennett took the leaderboard with 1:47.228 during the morning session. Verschoor scored a consecutive fastest lap on the second day with a 1:43.273 during the afternoon sessions.
The test was successful in letting the teams gain meaningful data for the cars, which might come in handy when Formula 2 heads to Bahrain again on 11th April.
