David Croft Questions Official Story Behind Stroll’s Wrist Injury

Lance Stroll had to sit out the Spanish GP due to an injury hampering his wrist. This also comes as reports claim the Canadian lost his temper after exiting Q2 and was over half a second slower than his teammate Fernando Alonso.

Stroll is now a doubt for his home race in Canada, with Felipe Drugovich likely to take his place if the 26-year-old is unfit to race. However, TV commentator David Croft has cast doubt on whether he buys the whole story as to what caused the injury for Stroll.

After the qualifying session for the Spanish Grand Prix, Aston Martin released a statement where they claimed that Stroll’s injury was basically a bad hangover from his 2023 bike accident, where he underwent surgery on his wrists. While this is the official story, David Croft doesn’t buy it.

Lance Stroll’s injury story is not adding up for David Croft

After withdrawing from the Spanish GP, Aston Martin couldn’t field a second driver. This is because the regulations state that a driver must have participated in qualifying to enter the race. As Stroll had taken part in qualifying, reserve driver Drugovich, who was at the track, couldn’t race. This led Sky Sports commentator David Croft to question the story.

Speaking on The F1 Show, Croft said: “I don’t buy the ‘We’ve been monitoring this for six weeks’ [claim]. If they’ve been monitoring it for six weeks, then surely, for the good of the team, they wouldn’t have put Lance in the car in qualifying if it’s got to a point whereby he might not be fit enough to do the race. They’d bring in Drugovich.

“Lance puts in a lap that takes him P7 in Q1. He’s obviously fit enough to drive well at some stage during that qualifying session.”

Aston Martin had a car in Spain which could challenge for points. Since the upgrades in Imola, the team has failed to score despite improving the AMR25’s pace. Alonso managed to break his duck for the season by finishing in P9. And the Green team, who are desperate for points, could’ve had a second car fighting to get into the top 10.

David Croft adds fuel to the Lance Stroll temper loss claims

Reports after qualifying have accused Lance Stroll of losing his temper in the garage. Sources claim that Stroll swore at team members, threw objects and damaged equipment. David Croft has added to the speculation of Stroll’s loss of temper.

Croft said: “I understand that a helmet was thrown, to the extent that the helmet might have been damaged, such was the force that it hit the wall. There was a lot of shouting and swearing going on as well.

Reports Clarify Lance Stroll had an Emotional Reaction After Spanish GP Q2 Knockout

“Lance has got form for punching walls before, albeit partition walls that wouldn’t necessarily hurt him. I’ve heard that before in his time at Aston Martin.”

Stroll does have form of losing his temper in the garage. The Canadian stormed out of the back of the garage and had an altercation with his trainer after qualifying in P16 at the 2023 Qatar GP. Stroll received an official warning from the FIA over his actions in Qatar. The FIA are yet to look into any possible incidents in Barcelona.
